Elections are coming up for the C.A.P.E. State Board Officers. These positions are for 2 years and elections are every even year. Please remember that this is a volunteer position and may require some travel (expenses paid by CAPE) and/or meetings that could occur during normal working days. It is strongly recommended that you have the support of your command staff before applying. Apply by November 15.
The following is a very brief description of the current duties of each Director. Each board has the discretion to change the position duties/titles as they see fit. Your application to the State Board is not for a specific position. The new board will take seat at the end of that even year’s seminar. Once all of the required seats are full the newly elected board will assign positions.
President: Oversees the organization and presides over meetings. They also follow any state legislature that may relate to Property & Evidence.
1st Vice President: In charge of membership, member communications and marketing. Along with the Treasurer, also reviews and signs the hotel contracts for upcoming training seminars.
2nd Vice President: In charge of vendors for the upcoming training seminars. This position is also the seminar liaison to work hand-in-hand with the seminar Director and their committee to answer any questions on seminar procedures.
Secretary: Responsible for taking notes during each board meeting, providing minutes and agendas for each of these meetings, and documenting board votes. This position is also in charge of managing the quarterly newsletter.
Treasurer: Maintains all of the finances for the organization, including each chapter and the seminar. They also organize the yearly tax obligations and handle all travel arrangements for state board meetings/functions. Assists in the signing of seminar hotel contracts.
Northern Director: This position is a liaison for all of the Northern and part of the Central chapters' needs as far as training opportunities or chapter issues/questions. Covers Sierra Nevada, Nor Cal, Alta, and Central Valley Chapters.
Southern Director: This position is a liaison for all of the Southern and part of the Central chapters' needs as far as training opportunities or chapter issues/questions. Covers Central Coast, Inland, Greater LA, Orange & San Diego Chapters.
Qualification for Office per CAPE Bylaws:
A. All Regular Voting Members who have paid their dues current, who are in good standing within C.A.P.E., who are currently employed by a governmental agency in the State of California for the purposes of processing property and evidence, and have been Regular Voting Members of C.A.P.E. for at least one (1) year, shall be eligible for nomination to serve in all positions as elected State Officers of C.A.P.E. and elected Chapter Officers of C.A.P.E.
B. All Regular Voting Members who have paid their dues current, who are in good standing within C.A.P.E., who are not currently employed by a governmental agency in the State of California for the purpose of processing property and evidence, and who have been Regular Voting Members of C.A.P.E. for at least the last twelve (12) months continuously preceding the election, shall be eligible for nomination to serve in all positions as elected officers of C.A.P.E. except the positions of State President, State First Vice-President, or Chapter President.
C. No persons other than Regular Voting Members shall be eligible for nomination to serve as elected officials within C.A.P.E.
D. To avoid any real or perceived conflict of interest, no persons working for, or with ownership interests in, any business providing services, supplies, or equipment to a governmental agency for the purposes of processing property and evidence shall be eligible for nomination to serve as elected officials within C.A.P.E., with the exception of any individuals providing educational instruction or training consistent with C.A.P.E. goals on behalf of a governmental agency.
